Be Patient With Romeo's Return
Romeo Langford is set to return to play for the Celtics very soon, but I expect some lofty expectations for the 21 year old wing. Romeo looked really good at times last season especially on the defensive end, but definitely was less than stellar offensively. I think that most Celtics' fans really hope that Romeo will take a significant leap on that end of the floor, because the Celtics are pretty thin on rotational level wing players. I fully expect Romeo to be a really big factor come playoff time, but I also think it will take him a while to get his feet wet.
As Boston fans we should be used to players coming back slow from injury, we saw it with Hayward and now we are seeing it with Kemba. It is extremely hard for players to jump right into things and play at the level they're capable of, and there is a really good chance Brad slowly works him back into the lineup. Say Romeo comes back within the next few games, I do not think it is fair to criticize Romeo's game until at least the middle of March. This wrist injury is something that ailed him throughout college and his rookie season, and I think that could have been a big factor in his offensive game.
Once Romeo is fully healthy and back into the swing of things, I do expect him to play a fairly big role for the Celtics. Now, like I had said earlier Romeo dealt with a similar injury throughout college too. This means this might be the first time he has been healthy since high school. It is important to note that during high school he was ranked top 6 in both Rivals.com and ESPN for his class. He didn't live up to the billing at Indiana, which could have been in part due to the injury. His scouting report mentioned that he looked to be a good scorer at all three levels and a guy who has great potential as a versatile defender. We have seen the latter and now I expect to see the former as he gets comfortable playing in NBA games again.
